Wii News Channel Up and Running

Wii News ChannelThe Wii News channel that has long been unavailabe is now finally out and downloadable through a Wii Update. The previous rumors that it costs money have been snuffed as it is completely free. They have created a 3D globe similar to the Weather Channel on the Wii and they have stuck small thumbnails of news above each city. It actually looks very nice once you get into it. Those were the pros and now for the cons. The Wii only picks up certain categories of articles from the Associated Press. There seems to be no way to change which feeds you want picked up as of now but hopefully that will be an update.

Utterly Useless Item of the Week: Coffee-Mug Mouse

Mug Mouse

Nope, not a joke, though one hopes it should be. This is a coffee-mug converted to work as a mouse. I can see it now, an office-worker spends days on his new report and in his excitement moves his mouse too quickly to the "save" button, effectively spilling  a good  15 ounces of steaming coffee onto his keyboard and computer. Aaaahh….the sweet smell of coffee all over your trashed computer. The only person who I can imagine using this is…………………………Oh, wait, I can't think of anyone, like I said, useless.

The Leaked MotoKrzr K3

MotoKrzr K3This is the new MotoKrzr K3 (Krzr K3 for short). This has been leeked to Engadget so we do not have very much concrete information about it, but it seems to have a camera that faces the person when looking at the phone, or in other words a front facing camera. This usually means that this will have 3G capabilities to make use fo the front facing camera for high quality video conferencing. This would be the first phone with video conferencing introduced into the US if and when it is introduced into the US.Hopefully it come here soon. On another topic the phone also has a 2MP camera on the back side for normal photo and video takingg jsut as in any other phone.

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Limited Numbered Signature Edition. Wow.

Windows Vista Signature Edition

Yeah, the wow isnt in the title, but it should be. If Microsoft thinks that slapping on Bill Gates' signature, a special case and a $259 price tag is going to make it sell a bunch of more vistas, I'm pretty sure they're wrong. I personally doubt they'll sell the 19,999 units of memorable microsoft software. Yeah I'm really sure.

Navy develops 8-Megajoule railgun

Navy Railgun

The navy developed a railgun recently which inflicts the same damage as a tomahawk missile. A railgun fires non-explosive projectiles at very high speeds, effectively penetrating armor plating, or pretty much anything else using only electricity, not gunpowder. The navy has already tested this weapon and says that it is worth using on our ships, and a lot cheaper than firing off missiles. The device's project director compared the impact to hitting something "going 380 miles-per-hour in a Ford Taurus." And if this 8-megajoule one can do damage imagine what the 32 and 64 megajoule ones must be like.Laughing

Iphone Backlash Coming says Analyst

Iphone

According to Gizmodo, an analyst has said that the Iphone will soon get dished out a backlash from the people that were praising it before. This is all according to him. He says that people will realize the faults that the Iphone has such as its locked down OS and its limited storage to act as an Ipod. The OS takes u[ about 750MB out of the 4GB or 8GB that you bought. He also outlines the fact that the Iphone will have no tactile feedback, or hard buttons, to give anyone the feedback that they need to know if they pressed the button or not. It is also much easier to type on a real tactile keyboard rather than a touchscreen. In the smartphone category it is failing in that respect. He also points out the fact that it lacks 3G, Games, and no GPS functionality. He finds this as a definite turn off for many users. We will find out who is right when it comes down to the wire in June and the consumers take a test run.

PS3 Sales Somewhere Around 25% Less than Predicted

PS3 with Controller

According to Dailytech.com, PS3 sales are around 25% less than Sony predicted, thanks to a few different factors. From an independent company, Nomura Securities, they say that the sales in North America are struggling to get anywhere near the mark that Sony set. Sony’s orgional prediction was that they would have 2 million units for launch globally and another 2 million for the rest of the holidays, but according to the facts that number was set back to around 2 million in total globally. According to the real numbers, they were 530,000 away from getting to that 2 million mark. If things keep playing out as they are Normura predicts 4.5 million units worldwide by March instead of Sony’s goal of 6 million. That puts Sony a little behind in their numbers. Sony had better get their manufacturing act together because they are getting called on their prediction numbers and they need to start producing if they are to succeed ever.

Useless Product of the Week: Disco Keyboard

Disco Keyboard

Well looks like they kind of came up with the "super" keyboard. Remember that equalizer t-shirt wayyy back when. (its a great review, check it out) Well this works similarly, with a setup that can change colors with the music, or you can give it your own pattern, but it would probably suck, so dont. And you can download patterns too by the way.

The Iphone: Is it an Ipod Replacement?

Iphone in Hand

This is it. Its finally here but is it worthy of your hard earned cash. We’re here to tell you. Whether you believe us or not is your choice. Anyways on to the big announcement. Yesterday at Macworld San Francisco Apple announced the Iphone, a hybrid phone - ipod. Now the first thing you notice about this is that it has no visible keyboard or any kind of input. That is because this phone is going for pure touch input. there is nothing other than that little circle button that takes you to the menu. It also has an accelerometer so that it knows when it is horizontal or vertical and it also knows when it is on your ear so that you don’t start pushing buttons while you talk. It runs at only .46 inches thick which is very thin for a device of its caliber. The second thing you notice is the OS it runs. You’re right if you guessed that it runs OSX. This runs a scaled down version of OSX, which is a good thing in some respects and a bad thing in others. It gives a full fledged Safari we browser which is way better than any other phone web browser. It also has a decent mail client so that you can completely and totally ditch all you other electronic devices. So Apple wants you to do. It has widgets that view all the common things such as stocks and weather. The other thing it has built in is Google Maps.  Its got a decent camera at 2MP for taking some pretty decent shots occasionally. It communicates via 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, or on Cingular’s EDGE network. The text input is via a keyboard that come up on the screen when in applications that use it. Apple has this device locked down so there wont be adding any software that is not provided by Apple. Battery life is pretty good, at least what they say the battery life is, at 5 hours of talk, video, browsing and 16 hours of audio playback. That seems like a stretch. This also plays videos in widescreen mode from the Itunes Store. The only problem, the biggest capacity is 8GB. That is not very many movies or songs for that matter. This is to be released in June so that may change in the next few months. The only thing really holding this phone back is the storage capacity due, most likely, to the fact that they had to squeeze OSX on to the hard drive and we don’t know how much space the drive has on its own. Well as I said it comes out in June and at the price of a whopping $600 with a two year contract at Cingular. There is a 4GB model that runs at $500 with the same two year contract. Hopefully Apple allows it to move to other carriers but that is highly unlikely. I’ve told you the facts and a little but of my opinion now you decide. Is it worth that $600 (or $500) to you?
