The navy developed a railgun recently which inflicts the same damage as a tomahawk missile. A railgun fires non-explosive projectiles at very high speeds, effectively penetrating armor plating, or pretty much anything else using only electricity, not gunpowder. The navy has already tested this weapon and says that it is worth using on our ships, and a lot cheaper than firing off missiles.The device's project director compared the impact to hitting something "going 380 miles-per-hour in a Ford Taurus." And if this 8-megajoule one can do damage imagine what the 32 and 64 megajoule ones must be like.
