Utterly Useless Item of the Week: Coffee-Mug Mouse

Mug Mouse

Nope, not a joke, though one hopes it should be. This is a coffee-mug converted to work as a mouse. I can see it now, an office-worker spends days on his new report and in his excitement moves his mouse too quickly to the "save" button, effectively spilling  a good  15 ounces of steaming coffee onto his keyboard and computer. Aaaahh….the sweet smell of coffee all over your trashed computer. The only person who I can imagine using this is…………………………Oh, wait, I can't think of anyone, like I said, useless.

Bawls

gogx.jpg

For those of you who like to stay up for thirty hours at an all-night fragfest, Bawls energy drink is definetly for you. It has a taste reminescent of the now discontinued Sprite Remix, only stronger. At the recent nVIDIA g80 release the m1nor crew noticed a large amount of gamers. To our suprise some of them had upwards of 30 “Bawls” on their desk. After some quite strenuous research, I learned that its motto was “Never Sleep.” Do to my inquisitive nature, I decided to try some. It tasted delightful, so whether your the serious gamer or just someone who enjoys a soda, this is a drink for you.

New Mouse: Tail-less (cordless) and heartless (battery-free)

Satellite%20image.jpg

An interesting new technology has been developed by A4Tech…a mouse without a cord and without a battery. It sucks all power from the mouse pad through what is called “magic magnetism”. What this essentially means is that the mouse is not truly wireless as it always has to remain in contact with the mouse pad to draw power. This defeats the purpose of having a wireless mouse as you are limited to the area of the mouse pad. However, this technology could become the next big thing in mousing innovation if power can somehow be beamed across the several feet between a receiver and the mouse. If this technology is developed, think of what it would be like to live a world where all wires are completely eliminated and all things are powered from the instant you take them out of their box. Could this technology be further expanded so that 3rd world nations would be able to develop without the stringing of electric wire all across the country and through the use of great power emitters? Just think.

Weird Al: White and Nerdy

A video by one of my favorite artists, Weird Al Yankovic. It’s not really a product, but I believe it relates to the blog and moreover it’s just a funny video by one of the greatest, most creative artists of our time.

Biometric Scanner Implementation: It’s Not all Thumbs!

vert.biometrics.gi.jpg

In Rome, Georgia, cafeteria workers have found a new way to increase the rate at which the lunch line moves with the implementation of new technology. The typical lunch room in school across America requires students to shell out a dollar or two for their lunch after picking up their items. At Rome’s West End Elementary, students now just have to swipe their finger on a biometric reader and their accounts are automatically charged. This means faster lunch line movement and less pushing and shoving to get to the tables. Now if this technology can be applied to such places as schools, can’t it also be put in places where there is often a large backup to use something. I’m thinking maybe the airport lines where you get tickets, ATM machines and in grocery stores where you are a frequent customer. Imagine the ease of a life where your fingerprint serves as both your credit card and ID tag.
